High school teacher

What was one of the most memorable moments you had as a volunteer?

The whole 2 year experience was memorable.

In what ways did your Peace Corps experience affect your life and/or career decisions?

I have never stopped having international interests & experiences since that first experience. My husband and I have volunteered in Madagascar and Egypt, have been part of a peace delegation to Israel/Palestine, and have had scores of international students in our home.

In what ways did your U-M education, both inside and outside the classroom, prepare you for your Peace Corps experience?

There was more diversity at U-M than I'd known before. I loved that as a student.

What advice would you give to others who are contemplating going into the Peace Corps?

Grab the chance. Grab the chance.

What is the value gained from the Peace Corps experience?

You can really know a culture in a way a tourist never can.

What lessons did you learn in the Peace Corps that you carry with you today?

There are good people everywhere, and they are the vast majority.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I still remember waiting at the Union for JFK to arrive, and his speech.
