Secondary School Teacher (Biology, Chemistry, Business Ed, Physical Education)

My wife (with whom I served)

What was one of the most memorable moments you had as a volunteer?

Learning about the Maasai culture, living off the grid (no running water/electricity)

In what ways did your Peace Corps experience affect your life and/or career decisions?

Continued with teaching, but with a broader scope of what HS can do for students and international service.

In what ways did your U-M education, both inside and outside the classroom, prepare you for your Peace Corps experience?

Diverse viewpoints, an inherent feeling of helping those who need it.

What advice would you give to others who are contemplating going into the Peace Corps?

DO IT.

What is the value gained from the Peace Corps experience?

A worldview that is enriched by actual experiences in places much different than the U.S.

What lessons did you learn in the Peace Corps that you carry with you today?

"Intelligence" has a more fluid definition, we don't need all the stuff we have to be happy.
