Santa Barbara, Honduras

What were your main responsibilities as a volunteer?

I worked as a Health Volunteer with a water filter project and HIV prevention education

Is there a specific person (or persons) who made a strong impression on you during that time?

Nineth, the local coordinator for the water filter project, was an amazing woman. She was hard working and knew how to strategically manage her situation.

In what ways did your Peace Corps experience affect your life and/or career decisions?

It convinced me that I wanted to go into Public Health Management & Policy so that I could effectively lead public health programs and organizations domestically and internationally.

In what ways did your U-M education, both inside and outside the classroom, prepare you for your Peace Corps experience?

In my case, the Peace Corps has prepared me to enter graduate school with some great real life experience that will inform the theory I am learning in the classroom.

What advice would you give to others who are contemplating going into the Peace Corps?

Apply now and keep an open mind and heart...wide open.

What is the value gained from the Peace Corps experience?

Priceless

What lessons did you learn in the Peace Corps that you carry with you today?

I learned how to be diplomatic when dealing with difficult and unjust situations and individuals.
